August 1: The Jharkhand Transport Department approved a new dress code for drivers of cars and electric tricycles, as recommended by a special committee set up on July 10. Car drivers driving petrol, diesel or CNG vehicles must wear khaki uniforms, while electric tricycle drivers must wear blue uniforms. Drivers who do not comply will face penalties.
Comprising Deputy Traffic Commissioner, Suburban Commissioner, Lanchi Municipal Corporation, Lanchi District Traffic Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) of Lanchi, the Committee was tasked with developing a uniform dress code to enhance driver identification and passenger safety. Their recommendations were adopted and implemented under the Central Motor Vehicles Act 1988.
This new regulation aims to create a sense of security for passengers by making drivers easily identifiable. It also addresses frequent complaints from passengers about driver misconduct and congestion caused by drivers around train stations and bus stops. By introducing uniforms, the Ministry of Transport hopes to improve the overall travel experience and maintain order in the public transport sector.
